Willy Ronis, Paris photographer, 1910-2009

You may have noticed my affection and awe for early and mid-twentieth century street photographers, ha, curiously also often from Paris, and especially Robert Doisneau and Henri-Cartier Bresson.

Well, today I have been admiring the work of Willy Ronis...

... who has worked with the same agency as Doisneau, and been in exhibitions with Cartier-Bresson, and was also apparantly the first French photographer to work for Life Magazine, the B&W photography books of which I used to seek out and read in libraries when I was at school, one of my first photographic influences, admiring photographs of life like this one...

Willy Ronis was born in 1910 and died last year in September. His street photographs of Paris and portraits of French couples are warm and endearing, and his nude studies are beautiful.

I greatly admire the way he captures ordinarly life, and with kindness, much like Robert Doisneau.

I have had quite the intense week personally, which photographically means first of all at times like these I withdraw from taking photographs for a while, and secondly, when feeling a little better, I seek solace in reading, etc, but also browsing art and photography.

One image that cheered me up yesterday was this one...



oh how I would love to stay (or visit) there,
with balloons! Of course. :)

The image to the right also reminds me of a dear friend, who would create things like this, on a different level. It reminds me of her hallway tree, and by the way, this is the hallway of a house that the first photo here reminds me of, and she is also just the sort of wonderful, whimsical friend who would adorn her house with balloons as well.

Well. I am now officially cheered up. :)

Tea Pony, vintage children's designer love, and a little Belle and Boo

I have been meaning to share one of my children's clothing industry favourites, the wonderful, vintage inspired Tea Pony.


Australian made and so sweet, Tea Pony has such lovely vintage inspired, unique and imaginative designs. x



Another favourite Tea Pony creation is the Belle and Boo 'Lost' dress,


... a collaboration with the lovely UK artist, Belle and Boo, the creator of some very sweet children's illustrations.


If I may sidetrack for a while, because it is funny who is connected to who in this small world... The above Tea Pony dress was lost, with little wooden duck on the back of the dress as well.

I also heard of Belle and Boo from child photography friends, via her very special illustrations for the beautiful Ava.




... and Ava's mother Sheye is such a wonderful soul, a beautiful children's photographer and writer.
